Christmas Bird Counts--The Sea & Sage and South Coast chapters of the National Audubon Society will participate in the Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 19 as part of a North American bird census.

It will be South Coast Audubon’s first year of participation in the count, which started in 1900.

Participants go to a specific area and record the birds sighted by species and number. The count helps researchers determine the overall health of the North American bird population. The results are summarized in a special issue of American Birds magazine in the spring.
