Youth Dies as Car Plunges Off Freeway
A 17-year-old Somis youth was killed Monday afternoon after his car swerved off the Ventura Freeway and plunged down a 60-foot embankment, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
The unidentified youth was reportedly traveling at high speed down the Conejo Grade between Thousand Oaks and Camarillo when he lost control of his car. The car, a Corvette, swerved from the passing lane across all the northbound lanes and shot off the highway, flipping upside-down as it tumbled to the bottom of the embankment. The youth was pronounced dead at the scene.
