C. Marvin Brewer; Water Company Executive

C. Marvin Brewer, a water company executive and civic leader, has died at 81.

Brewer, who was a director of the Metropolitan Water District and from 1969 to 1980 served as president and chief executive officer of Dominguez Water Corporation, died Nov. 27, his wife Stella said Monday.

Memorial services are scheduled for Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2200 Via Rosa, Palos Verdes Estates.

Brewer was awarded an honorary life membership in the National Assn. of Water Companies and was given the George Fuller Award of the American Water Works Assn. for his work with those organizations.

He also served as president of the Torrance Chamber of Commerce and the Corona Rotary Club, and was a founding member of the Navy League Council.

A native of Auburn, Wash., Brewer was educated at Washington State University and served in the Coast Guard.

He began his career as an auditor for the Washington state tax commission. He came to California as an escrow officer of the First National Bank of Corona and served as general manager of the Corona City Water Company and the Temescal Water Company before taking over the Dominguez post.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Brewer is survived by two sons, Craig and Kirk; a sister, Betty Robinson, and five grandchildren.

The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to the St. Francis Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 772, Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. 90274.
