PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Jaeger Regains Confidence Against Bills

Share

Jeff Jaeger stopped worrying about it Wednesday. Coach Art Shell was convinced in the pregame warm-up Sunday.

Still, both men breathed a little easier after Jaeger, attempting his first field goal Sunday in Buffalo, was successful from 37 yards.

His four field goals against the Bills gave him 27 in 35 attempts with four games to go. Jaeger’s high is 29 in 1991.

Still, he was coming off a horrendous performance the week before when he missed four field goals in five tries against the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Monday and Tuesday, I really dwelled on it,” Jaeger said. “But then, I realized I couldn’t keep doing that. So, I went out of my way to approach the week the same as I always do. I didn’t do any extra kicking.”

Shell never lost faith.

“I wasn’t worried about his confidence,” Shell said. “I watched him kick in warm-ups and I knew he was ready to go. . . . It’s just like shooting free throws. You miss a few, then you make that first one and you can get on a roll.

“He won’t ever miss four field goals in a game again.”
