PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Conlan Out for Game Against Saints

Share

The Rams, who have lost seven of their last eight games, continue to be hit by injuries. The latest victim: linebacker Shane Conlan.

Coach Chuck Knox said Conlan will sit out Sunday’s game with the Saints in New Orleans because of a sprained medial collateral knee ligament.

“It’s a little loose,” said Conlan, who is second to Roman Phifer on the team in tackles with 69. “It’s not that bad . . . I’ll be out one game at the most.”

Knox said the team had also ordered further tests for safety Michael Stewart’s ankle and guard Tom Newberry’s knee.

Knox hedged Monday on an earlier announcement that T.J. Rubley would be the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

“I don’t remember saying that,” Knox said. “I usually don’t make those kind of categorical statements. That would be out of character for me to say that. I think I said we need to take a look at him.”

Knox declined to say if Rubley will start against the Saints. “We don’t make personnel decisions on Monday,” Knox said, “but I’ll help you out a little bit. It definitely looks like it’s going to be that way.”
