MIGHTY DUCKS NOTES : Despite Result, They Can Laugh About Bad Check

Share

The freak injury to Mighty Duck center Anatoli Semenov--who dislocated his left elbow when caught in a check by teammate Stu Grimson--leads to a joking question.

Should the Ducks complain to the NHL about their own player?

“Yeah, I’m going to send in the tape, get you suspended for 20 games,” Coach Ron Wilson teased Grimson Thursday.

Grimson said he saw Florida’s Dave Lowry and Semenov going after the puck along the boards in Tuesday’s game and tried to “bump” Lowry off the puck. When Lowry moved to evade the check, he caught Semenov in the collision.

“It was unfortunate. I feel bad,” Grimson said. “We certainly don’t want to have our No. 1 scorer out of games at this point.”

Then he teased Wilson.

“It’s Ron’s fault. He shouldn’t play me with those high-scoring players. I don’t know where they are going to be.”

Semenov was in good spirits Thursday, even though his elbow is in a cast and he was still on pain killers.

“I don’t have a question against Stu,” Semenov said. “It was an accident, just an accident.”

The Ducks recalled center Jarrod Skalde from minor league affiliate San Diego of the International League. Skalde, 22, has 11 goals and 22 assists in 23 games with the Gulls, and was summoned to fill in for Semenov.

The Ducks also announced that goaltender Mikhail Shtalenkov has been sent to San Diego on a conditioning assignment.

Garry Valk, who suffered a concussion when he was cross-checked into the boards by Tampa Bay’s Joe Reekie Sunday, said he still has not been cleared to practice but hopes to play Sunday against St. Louis at Anaheim Arena.
