BREA : Sokol Named School Board President, 6-1

Share

Susie Sokol reluctantly accepted her appointment this week as president of the Brea-Olinda Unified School District board.

Sokol, who nominated Lynn Doucher for the top job, was selected on a 6-1 vote. Sokol dissented. She served as president in 1991 and wanted Doucher to be president for her last year on the board. But Doucher, who nominated Sokol, declined the nomination.

“I thought it would be an honor for Lynn to be president her last year. But I’m not surprised she didn’t want to do it because I knew she wanted me to do it,” said Sokol, 50, who served as the board’s vice president this past year. “I wanted her to go out with glory. It was just a sentimental gesture on my part.”

Doucher has been on the board for 11 years and does not plan to run for election when her term is up next year. Doucher, 47, said she is considering running for the City Council.
