U.S. OKs Network to Sell Newspaper Advertising: The Justice Department gave approval to a proposal by the newspaper industry to set up a nationwide network to sell advertising to national advertisers. The proposed National Newspaper Network would not run afoul of antitrust laws and may help daily and weekly newspapers compete more effectively with other media for national advertising revenue, the Justice Department said. The Newspaper Assn. of America, the largest trade association of newspaper publishers, had sought the business review of the proposed advertising network by the Justice Department’s antitrust division. The network would give advertisers the opportunity to buy ads in a large number of newspapers at a single rate. The network would be open to all daily and weekly newspapers.
