OXNARD : School to Name Library After Late Principal

Share

As a tribute to a principal and English teacher who loved to read, Hueneme High School will name its library after the late Terry A. Taylor.

Taylor died at age 50 in October after a long battle with cancer.

Principal Joanne Black said Hueneme High staff had been searching for a way to honor Taylor, who taught English at the school for 19 years before becoming principal in 1987. She served as principal until her death.

“Naming a library after her is very appropriate,” Black told the Oxnard Union High School District board of trustees last week. “Her nose was always in a book.

“Naming the gymnasium after her would not be appropriate,” Black mused, indicating that Taylor was more fond of reading than exercising.

The school will have a public ceremony in January when it dedicates the library in Taylor’s honor.
