Three more lawyers have left the formerly fast-growing Orange County law firm of Pettis, Tester, Kruse & Krinsky, raising the number of defections this year to 15.

The three, who work in the firm’s bankruptcy law section, are partners Michael Miller and Cherie Erickson Harris and special counsel Michael B. Lubic. They joined the Los Angeles office of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Erensen, which is based in San Francisco.

“Firm-wide, there are more resources” at McCutchen, Lubic said. “It’s a 250-plus lawyer firm. We felt McCutchen would offer us an environment in which we could better grow our practice.”

Pettis, Tester, which was formed by a group that left law firm giant Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in 1987, has seen its ranks dwindle from 45 lawyers to fewer than 30 this year. Worse, in a blow to the firm’s revenue, a dozen of those who left were partners who command higher hourly fees than associates.
