The Sheriff’s Department has completed an investigation into allegations that Lawndale students were improperly searched by two school aides and have referred the case to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The searches occurred Monday after 10 girls and five boys from Will Rogers Intermediate School returned from a field trip to the South Bay Galleria, authorities said. The students were accompanied by the two aides--a man and woman--and two teachers.
Sgt. Robert Stoneman said students told investigators that the male school aide strip-searched all the boys after a teacher complained she was missing $400. The two aides have been suspended with pay pending a decision from the district attorney’s office on whether to file charges.
The $400 has not been found.
