CHATSWORTH : Student, 17, Is Shot Outside School During Robbery
A Chatsworth High School student was shot three times in front of the campus Wednesday afternoon when he apparently refused to give up his backpack to two robbers.
The 17-year-old victim was identified by relatives as Gabriel Gettleson, a senior, of Northridge. He was shot in the chest, the left shoulder and the left hip.
He underwent surgery at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center and was reported in good condition. Police later detained five men for questioning.
Gettleson left school one period early for his job at a car dealership and was waiting for his mother to pick him up at Lurline Avenue and Vintage Street when two men drove up in a white BMW and demanded his backpack, said Detective Mike Brandt. When he refused to give it up, one of the men shot him three times and the pair fled, Brandt said.
