The Fullerton School District Board of Trustees this week chose its new officers.

The board elevated Trustee Robert C. Fisler to president.

Fisler, 83, has been on the board since 1977 and served as president in 1979, 1984 and 1989.

This time around, he said, he hopes to raise the salaries of teachers and administrators. He said the district’s teachers are the second lowest paid in the county, while administrators are the lowest paid in the county.

“We are no longer competitive, and I feel very strongly that we have been a training ground for younger teachers,” Fisler said. “We train them, they become excellent teachers and transfer for higher paying jobs elsewhere.”

Fisler said he plans to have the board investigate where the budget can be trimmed so that money saved can be used for pay raises.

“We have to become more competitive to keep our teachers and administrators here,” Fisler said.

In addition to the new president, the board elected Elena Reyes-Jones as vice president and Rosamaria Gomez-Amaro as clerk.
