The Atlanta Hawks’ 14-game winning streak finally ended Thursday night.

“They were due one like this,” Indiana Coach Larry Brown said after his Pacers overcame a 17-point second-quarter deficit to rout the Hawks, 99-81, at Atlanta behind Dale Davis, who had 19 points and 18 rebounds.

Said Hawk Coach Lenny Wilkens: “The streak had to end sometime. I just wish it had been on the road, rather than at home.”

It was the Hawks’ first loss of the season in the Omni, ending a string of nine consecutive victories.

“Atlanta’s had a great run,” Brown said after the Pacers’ fourth victory in five games. “We played as well as we can and they weren’t up to it tonight, so we got them.”

Dominique Wilkins gave the Hawks a 36-19 lead, less than a minute into the second quarter, but the Pacers responded with a 14-0 run.

Indiana cut the lead to 38-37 on Ken Williams’ basket from the left baseline, but didn’t tie the score or take the lead until the final five minutes of the third quarter.

Wilkins, who scored 23 points, gave the Hawks a 59-53 lead with 8:51 to play in the third quarter before they faltered.

Davis scored eight points during a 25-7 run over the next 11 1/2 minutes.

Miami 90, Cleveland 89--Steve Smith scored the Heat’s last four points, including two on a 17-foot jump shot with 7.3 seconds to play at Miami.

Mark Price made his third three-point basket of the fourth quarter with 49 seconds remaining to give Cleveland an 89-86 lead, capping the Cavaliers’ comeback from a 17-point deficit.

But Smith, who was playing his first game in a week after recovering from flu, made a 16-foot shot to cut the Heat’s deficit to 89-88. Then, after a miss by Price, Smith grabbed the rebound and made a turnaround jump shot.

San Antonio 103, Dallas 89--David Robinson scored 30 points at Dallas as the Spurs sent the Mavericks to their 17th consecutive defeat.
