Pepperdine Loses Seesaw Game on George Washington’s Late Surge
Yinka Dare led the way with 21 points and five rebounds Saturday as No. 23 George Washington pulled away in the closing minutes to defeat Pepperdine, 66-59.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Colonials (5-1), whose only loss was against top-ranked North Carolina two weeks ago.
The Waves (5-2) had won two in a row.
The lead changed hands 10 times and neither team led by more than eight points before George Washington took the lead for good at 55-53 on a basket by Dare with 7:27 left.
The Colonials then scored nine of the next 13 points to open a 64-57 lead with 2:02 to play.
Dana Jones led Pepperdine with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Damin Lopez added 15 points and Derek Noether had seven points and 10 rebounds.
Vaughn Jones and Nimbo Hammons each added 11 points for George Washington and Omo Moses had 10.
