HUNTINGTON BEACH : Library is Seeking Volunteers, Books

Share

The Huntington Beach Library is looking for a few good men and women. It’s also looking for some donated books.

Library officials said volunteers are needed during the first week of January to move items into the main library building’s new children’s wing. The library also needs people to donate used books for sale at the Main Street Library Branch.

Proceeds from the book sale are used to buy new items for the library branch at 525 Main St. People with books to donate are asked to bring them to that branch Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The branch is closed Fridays and Sundays.

Volunteers are sought to prepare for the opening of the new children’s wing at the Main Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. That wing will open Jan. 8, and volunteers are needed Jan. 4-7 to help move books and other materials from their old locations into the new wing, library officials said. About 42,000 books must be moved.

Lee Beltz, a senior library clerk, said that volunteers shouldn’t be scared off by the prospect of so many books. Carts will be used, Beltz said, and people need not carry more than a few books at a time.

Beltz said people can volunteer for specific hours to work Jan. 4-7.

“We have sign-up sheets, and people can volunteer to work any of those days--Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” Beltz said. “The library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday the hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

Persons wishing to volunteer can call the library at (714) 375-5107.
