IRVINE — A search committee has completed interviews for UC Irvine’s new director of soccer/head women’s coach and Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said an announcement will be made “later this week or early next week.”
The committee, which interviewed six candidates, forwarded a list of three finalists to Guerrero, who will make the final decision.
Marine Cano, a close friend of Guerrero’s who holds a similar position at Cal State Dominguez Hills where Guerrero was athletic director before coming to Irvine, is the front-runner for the job.
Also interviewed were: Ray Smith, who coached the Irvine women the last four seasons; former Stanford Coach Berhane Andeberhan, a member of the U.S. Soccer Federation since 1976; Larry Draluck, a former coach at USIU who is coach of the Southern California Blues club team; Don Ebert, coach of the Irvine Strikers club team, and Mt. San Antonio College women’s coach Debbie Cavion.
