SIMI VALLEY : Trash Collection Fee to Rise Next Month

Share

Simi Valley residents will pay 35 cents more a month for curbside trash pickup, the Simi Valley City Council decided.

Starting in January, residents of Simi Valley’s 27,000 single-family homes will pay $14.90 a month for weekly trash removal, the council agreed Monday. Senior citizens will get a discount, paying $11.67 a month.

The increase was approved Monday night on the recommendation of the city’s staff, which called for the hike as part of its annual evaluation of trash fees.

Trash fees are adjusted each December based on changes in the consumer price index and per-load fees at the Simi Valley Landfill, said Joe Hreha, deputy director of environmental services. Last year, rates went up 45 cents, Hreha said. Trash hauler G.I. Rubbish collects about 90% of the city’s trash, while Anderson Disposal collects 10%.
