Guest Revives Boy, 2, Who Fell in Pool

A 2-year-old boy who found his way into a fenced-in pool while his family was celebrating Christmas was revived by a former emergency medical technician who was visiting, authorities said.

The boy apparently went through an open garage door Saturday while presents were being brought into the house in the 20900 block of Quail Circle, said Sgt. Bill Vukelich of the Brea Police Department, which patrols Yorba Linda.

From the garage, Vukelich said, the boy went through a gate to the fenced, back-yard pool. When people in the house noticed the boy was missing and found him in the pool, an unidentified guest trained as an emergency medical technician administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the boy began breathing on his own, Vukelich said.

“He was very lucky,” the sergeant said.

The youngster was home Sunday after being held overnight for observation in the pediatric ward at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, nurses said.
