Ruth Mayer was back home, but police on Monday continued looking for the men who abducted her at gunpoint and held her captive for three days.

Mayer, 61, the wife of a prominent jeweler, was released unharmed Christmas Eve, three days after two armed men forced their way into her home and abducted her. The kidnapers also tied up her husband, Gene, and left a ransom note.

“We’re still following up many leads and we’re trying to get these guys identified,” said Antioch Police Capt. Jay Glen.

Mayer’s abduction galvanized residents of this town 37 miles northeast of San Francisco. Hundreds of volunteers distributed 50,000 flyers with Mayer’s photo and a drawing of one of the suspects.

Volunteers planned to keep passing out the handbills with “safe at home” written across Mayer’s photo and “still at large” across the drawing of the suspect.
