India Game Wardens Kill 2 Rhino Poachers
Wildlife wardens shot and killed two poachers preying on endangered one-horned rhinos in a national park in northeastern India, a news agency reported Tuesday.
The poachers were killed Monday night in a gunfight in the Kaziranga National Park, home to more than 1,000 rhinos.
Park wardens ambushed a group of five poachers, but three escaped into the jungle after an exchange of gunfire, the Press Trust of India said.
Worldwide, poachers have wiped out 85% of the species for the horns, which sell for more than $100,000 each.
