SANTA ANITA : Mamselle Bebette Pulls Upset in La Brea Stakes

Trainer Jack Van Berg had his third longshot winner in the first two days of the Santa Anita meeting when 20-1 shot Mamselle Bebette upset favored Desert Stormer in the $110,900 La Brea Stakes on Tuesday.
A 3-year-old daughter of Copelan owned by the Big Train Farm of actor John Forsythe, Mamselle Bebette won by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:20 2/5 for the seven furlongs. Corey Nakatani rode the winner, who paid $43.60. On Sunday, Van Berg won with Alyshena ($12.80) and Almaraz ($72.80).
Danny Sorenson rallied Elicec Aloha to a $77.20 victory in the ninth race. Only one favorite, Serendipity, was included in the winning Pick Six so Santa Anita has a two-day carryover in excess of $430,000 for today’s program.
Desert Stormer, who who lost for the first time in three career starts, finished second, six lengths ahead of 27-1 shot Island Orchid.
