Ex-IMF Secretary-General Dies: Pierre-Paul Schweitzer, a former head of the International Monetary Fund and top official in French economic policy, died Sunday, his family said. He was 81. The cause and place of death were not disclosed. A member of the French Resistance, Schweitzer survived a Nazi concentration camp and went on to a brilliant career in French and international finance after World War II. Through the 1950s and early ‘60s, Schweitzer served as the second vice governor of the Bank of France. In 1963 he began a 10-year stewardship of the IMF as secretary general. His father’s brother, Dr. Albert Schweitzer, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952.
