A young man was shot and wounded Saturday night in a fight that broke out among guests during a pay-as-you-enter party at a pizza parlor, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in a shopping center parking lot in the 12000 block of Euclid Street.

Wayne Vineyard, manager of New York Pizza, said the restaurant had been rented out to a disc jockey who held a private party that guests paid a cover charge to enter.

Vineyard said he did not know the name of the disc jockey.

No alcohol was served or allowed at the party, which was attended by several dozen people, most of them over 18, he added.

“Everything was going pretty well until some people came in that nobody recognized,” Vineyard said.

“They stayed for a few minutes and walked out and wanted their money back.”

Vineyard said the bouncers, who were hired by the disc jockey, would not return the money and a fistfight broke out in the parking lot.

Shots were fired and a young man came running into the restaurant, his arm bleeding, Vineyard said.

Police did not have the victim’s name Sunday. Several people were detained for questioning in connection with the shooting, police said.

“This was the first and last time” the restaurant has ever rented out its facility for a private party, Vineyard said.
