Soccer / Fullback

Last summer, Edison Coach Mike DiGiovanni was worried about replacing the stopper from the team that finished in fifth place in the Sunset League. Fial stepped in during summer league play and is one of the main reasons the Chargers are undefeated this season. Last week, he was named MVP of the Orange Holiday tournament after Edison beat La Habra, 1-0, in the title game. Edison (10-0-1) shut out three of its four opponents in the tournament. “(Fial) basically won the tournament for us,” DiGiovanni said.

* Schea Cotton had 22 points in Mater Dei’s 82-60 victory over Long Beach Wilson in the title game of the Orange Holiday tournament.

* Tony Gonzalez of Huntington Beach scored 30 points in a 78-73 victory over Newport Harbor in the title game of the Coast Holiday tournament.
