Welfare Employee Is Accused of Aiding Ineligible Relative
A state welfare employee was accused Tuesday of providing food stamps and cash to a relative who was ineligible for aid, authorities said.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Matthew Anderson said Georgina Martinez, 28, was charged with two felony counts each of misappropriating public funds and being an accessory to welfare fraud.
Martinez, an eligibility technician with the state Department of Social Services, is to be arraigned Jan. 19 in Municipal Court in Santa Ana.
If convicted, Martinez faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, Anderson said.
The district attorney’s office didn’t disclose the identity of the relative who received the aid.
The alleged misappropriation was discovered by the Department of Social Services and investigated by district attorney’s investigators.
