Long Beach : Tighter Restrictions on Leaf Blowers Approved
The City Council on Tuesday approved tougher restrictions on leaf blowers, to cut down on noise and dust.
The new restrictions, which take effect Feb. 11, will allow the use of leaf blowers from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Currently, leaf blowers can be used from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. any day of the week.
Violators will be issued warnings or fined up to $225 for each of the first three violations. A person will be charged with a misdemeanor for the fourth violation.
Councilman Douglas S. Drummond proposed the restrictions after receiving numerous complaints from residents.
