Cause of Gasoline Leak at Shell Plant Sought

Share

Shell Oil officials are trying to determine what caused more than 71,000 gallons of gasoline to leak from a Carson refinery tank last weekend, officials said.

Containment berms prevented the gasoline from escaping the immediate area around the 4.2-million-gallon storage tank on Sunday, and a gas cloud that formed over the spill dissipated quickly, officials said.

The cause of the leak wasn’t immediately determined, but it is believed the storage tank might have been overfilled, Shell spokesman Bill Gibson said. The spill posed no danger to nearby residents, authorities said.
