Wearing a brown leather bomber jacket and his trademark baseball cap, director Steven Spielberg paid a high-profile visit to the Consumer Electronics Show on Thursday, touring the exhibits and sampling the newest video games, including the interactive version of his hit movie “Jurassic Park.”

Spielberg said his Amblin Entertainment is interested in purchasing a small educational multimedia software developer.

“There’s all sorts of possibilities in education to use this technology to make it more fun,” Spielberg said.

Spielberg had a hard time repressing his directorial instincts at the show, telling one programmer he should put a 1940s show tune soundtrack in an off-road racing game and opining to AT&T; multimedia chief Robert Kavner that the best games are the ones with “good stories.” MCA Chairman Lew R. Wasserman and President Sidney J. Sheinberg, who accompanied Spielberg on the tour, were less impressed. “This is high-tech?” said Wasserman, confronted with a pinball video game boasting sophisticated graphics and animation. “It has its place,” Sheinberg said. “But there are still an awful lot of us that like to go home at night and not interact with our movies.”
