Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Science at the Seashore program will conduct a tide-pool walk on Sunday beneath the bluffs south of the San Pedro aquarium.

A slide show will be presented before observing the variety of animals that may be found in the tide pools, known as Point Fermin Marine Life Refuge.

The creatures include sea urchins, sea hares, anemones, and hermit crabs.

Strands of kelp and algae undulate in the wave-fed pools. Little sea worms hide under the rocks. And some of those bumps on the rocks are barnacles that have cemented themselves to the surface.

Simply poking around tide pools and taking in the sea air and ocean views can be fun, but experts at the aquarium say it’s a lot more enjoyable if you know what you’re looking at.

Non-slip shoes and outdoor clothing are recommended for the trek scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. over the slippery rocks.

Cost is $1. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Beach parking is $5.50, and limited street parking is available nearby.

Another walk is scheduled for Jan. 29 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The aquarium is at 3720 Stephen White Drive, San Pedro.
