One person was killed and another seriously injured Thursday in a head-on collision on Sierra Highway, authorities said.

Robert Almy, 54, of Canyon Country, was driving northbound on Sierra Highway, just north of Scherzinger Lane, when his car crossed the center line about 7:45 a.m. and collided with a southbound vehicle, authorities said.

Almy was freed from his vehicle by county firefighters.

He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he died from massive internal injuries later in the day, authorities said. Carolyn Lucas, 33, of Lancaster, the driver of the second car, suffered injuries in the collision. She was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she remains listed in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
