NHL ROUNDUP : Broten Brothers Batter Flyers

Neal Broten had a goal and three assists and brother Paul Broten added a goal and an assist to lead the Dallas Stars to an 8-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Dallas as the Stars rebounded from consecutive home defeats.

Ulf Dahlen contributed two goals and Russ Courtnall added a career-high four assists to help the Stars to their most one-sided victory of the season.

The Stars’ leading scorer, Mike Modano, left the ice in the second period because of a sprained knee after he was checked along the boards by right wing Dave Brown, who received a penalty for the hit.

Detroit 10, San Jose 3--Ray Sheppard and Vyacheslav Kozlov each scored three goals at San Jose to spark the Red Wings’ rout.

Sheppard scored a goal in each period for the fourth hat trick of his eight-year career. Kozlov got the first hat trick of his three-year career and has 18 goals this season.

Toronto 6, Ottawa 3--The Maple Leafs ended a seven-game winless streak as Doug Gilmour had a goal and two assists at Toronto.

The loss was the eighth in a row for the Senators.

Boston 5, Winnipeg 4--Ted Donato, subbing at center on the Bruins’ top scoring line for the injured Adam Oates, scored twice to lead the victory at Boston.

Ray Bourque, Don Sweeney and Bryan Smolinski also scored for the Bruins.

St. Louis 2, Hartford 1--Brett Hull scored two first-period goals and St. Louis goaltender Curtis Joseph didn’t give up a goal until late in the final period at Richfield, Ohio.
