BUENA PARK : Council OKs $258,000 for Alleyway Repairs

Share

Alleys off Beach Boulevard between Manchester Boulevard and Franklin Street are in such bad shape that the City Council this week approved spending $258,000 to repair the narrow drives behind businesses.

The council awarded the construction contract to Nobest Inc. of Garden Grove. To pay for the alleyway rehabilitation, the city will use federal grant money.

The project, approved by the council last November, will involve paving the deteriorated public alleys and installing gutters to improve drainage. The ramps and driveway accesses on both sides of Beach Boulevard will also be paved.

On the east side of the boulevard, improvements will be made from Manchester Boulevard to Franklin Street and, on the west side, from just north of 5th Street to Franklin Street.

Construction will be done in segments to minimize any inconvenience so that customers and employees will still have access to businesses and homes, said Nabil S. Henein, deputy city engineer.

Improvements are expected to start Jan. 24. Notifications of the construction schedule will also be sent next week to business owners and residents, Henein said.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of March, weather permitting.
