Prescient as the Akron, Ohio, band proved, Devo was wrong on one score: Evolution continues, at least for videophiles who’ve given up low-on-the-ladder VHS for the digital superiority of laser discs. And as pop music goes, this is the format’s most visionary application yet. The complete catalogue of Devo videos from the mid-’70s on (the early groundbreaking ones still being spookiest and best) is only the beginning. You also get a separate audio commentary track and still-frame text in which the head spuds wax historical and funnily bitter about their experiences with everyone from David Bowie and Eno to assorted record company weasels.
