CAMARILLO : School District Is Seeking Memorabilia

Share

Israel Hernandez attended classes in the Pleasant Valley School District nearly 100 years ago. Since then, all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have enrolled in the same district.

The Hernandez family is just one of those providing the Camarillo district with historical memorabilia to be displayed during the school district’s 125th anniversary celebration in May.

The Pleasant Valley School District, the oldest in Ventura County, is asking county residents for historical memorabilia such as clothing, photographs, yearbooks and notebooks from 1868, when the school was founded, up to the 1950s.

Some of the items already provided include a graduation diploma from the class of 1937, a scrapbook from the class of 1946 and several photographs.

This is the first time the school district has arranged for such a show. “We are hoping to get so much memorabilia that we would hope to turn some down,” said Sherry Jean Cole, a district spokeswoman.

The items are scheduled to be displayed at Camarillo’s library, City Hall and the Pleasant Valley Historical Museum from mid-January through June. The school district is planning a daylong celebration May 14 at Constitution Park.

Anyone with district historical items can contact Cole at 445-8600.
