Sega of America to Stop Distributing ‘Night Trap’ Game: In an unprecedented move for the video game industry, Sega’s U.S. division said it will stop distributing a controversial game that challenges players to save scantily clad women from a gang of hooded killers. The company said it will pull the CD version of “Night Trap” from the market, re-edit it, and release a new version when an industrywide ratings system is in place. As the $5-billion video game industry strives for inclusion in the more conventional entertainment industry, lawmakers, consumer groups and the companies themselves have begun to call for a games rating system and withdrawal from the market of the most graphically violent games. In “Night Trap,” the player tries to thwart black-hooded killers who are intent on capturing sorority sisters. When the women are captured, the killer drills through their necks and drains their blood.
