A “very lucky” 18-year-old Pacoima man escaped serious injury Monday when a bullet lodged between his skull and forehead during an assault, authorities said.
Francisco Javier Beltran Martinez was shot once by an unknown gunman Monday as he pulled his car into a driveway, said Sgt. Joe Flores of the Los Angeles Police Department.
“Several rounds were fired at the victim at close range, but only one bullet hit him in the forehead, and it didn’t penetrate the skull,” Flores said.
The attack occurred as the victim stepped from his car on Adelphia Avenue shortly after 6 p.m., Flores said.
Flores and an unidentified official at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills described the victim as a very lucky man.
Martinez was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center where he was treated for a single gunshot wound. He was released Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police have no motive for the shooting and no one has been arrested.
“It’s not a clear-cut case like a gang shooting,” Flores said.
