An 82-year-old man was struck and killed by a car as he tried to cross a busy street Sunday morning, according to sheriff deputies in the Antelope Valley.

Lucien Cote of Lancaster was struck by the car as he was walking across 10th Street West, just south of Avenue I, said Deputy Frank Juarez.

“He stood in the center in a two-way turn area” and then “shuffled quickly westbound directly in the path of the car,” Juarez said.

Cote was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was identified as John Dominguez, 45. Juarez said that according to the report, Dominguez was “well within the speed limit” traveling south when he struck Cote.

Dominguez was not charged with any violations, Juarez said, although deputies are continuing to investigate the incident.
