Owens-Corning to Appeal Personal Injury Award: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp. said it will appeal a $10.7-million award against the company in an asbestos personal-injury lawsuit. A New York jury said Toledo, Ohio-based Owens-Corning was liable in the death of John Scanlon, a former ship rigger. Scanlon fitted ships with pipes from 1952 to 1959 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He died in 1993, two years after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lung. Owens-Corning once manufactured asbestos pipe insulation. The jury awarded $12.6 million to Scanlon. Owens-Corning was responsible for $10.7 million, with other parties responsible for the additional $1.9 million.
