Southwest to Buy 63 Boeing Jets: Boeing Co. will sell Southwest Airlines 63 of its next-generation 737-700 jetliners for undisclosed terms, the companies said. Under the definitive agreement, Seattle-based Boeing will deliver the aircraft from late 1997 through 2001. In November, Dallas-based Southwest said it intended to be the first airline to use the new twin jet, which can carry 128 passengers in two classes or 137 passengers in a single class. The no-frills carrier, which flies to 37 cities nationwide, said it also has options to buy an additional 63 737-700s.
