WAKE-UP QUAKE: JS Seminars of Huntington Beach has had no trouble since Monday morning filling up seats for its two-day seminar next month for business and industries. It’s about planning for emergencies--like earthquakes. “We help people prepare for just about anything--natural disasters, hazardous material threats,” says spokesman Gary Stockdale. “But Monday’s quake was a wake-up call to some. Our phones have been busy since.”

HOPPY REDUX: Hopalong Cassidy--portrayed by the late silver-haired William Boyd--was a huge early Western hero. Now negotiations are complete to resurrect the character for the big screen. And that’s good news to Grace Boyd of Dana Point, the actor’s widow. “He was a force for good, a role model,” says Boyd. . . . She retains a percentage of the profits and final approval of how the character is portrayed, “just to keep the Hopalong property from being bastardized basically,” she says.

IT’S MAGIC: Amusement park attractions get more complex all the time. But parts of Disneyland’s new Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin are decidedly old-fashioned (OC LIVE!). For some of the illusions on the ride, for instance, designers turned to principles long used in stage magic tricks. . . . “It’s just done simply,” says Joe Lanzisero, the design team leader. “I was proud that we didn’t have to rely on lasers and sophisticated technology to get our effect.”. . . . Grand opening for the new ride, already in operation, is Wednesday at Mickey’s Toontown.
