Gauchos Defeat 49ers Again
UC Santa Barbara continued its mastery over Long Beach State Saturday night with an 82-66 Big West Conference victory in the 49ers’ campus gym.
The Gauchos (7-9, 3-3) have won 12 of the last 14 meetings between the schools.
Long Beach (8-5, 3-3) made 10 of its first 15 field goals and grabbed a 29-18 lead, but Santa Barbara came back and tied the score at the half, 40-40.
Center Doug Muse sparked the Gauchos to a 54-44 lead in the second half.
Long Beach played without starting guard Jeff Rogers, who has an injured leg, and backup forward Gerry Branner, who apparently quit the team.
