Pavel Bure scored his third goal of the game 54 seconds into overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night at Saskatoon, Canada.

Bure blasted a slap shot from the faceoff circle past Edmonton goaltender Bill Ranford to end the game.

The game began awkwardly for the Canucks, who lost the services of center Jimmy Carson because of a coaching blunder by Pat Quinn. On his lineup sheet, Quinn wrote the name Dixon Ward, instead of Carson’s, beside the No. 17. Ward was traded to the Kings for Carson on Jan. 8. Because he was not listed on the lineup sheet, Carson had to leave the Canucks’ bench.

Martin Gelinas and Trevor Linden also scored for the Canucks. Jason Arnott scored twice, and Bob Beers and Zdeno Ciger had one each for the Oilers.

Twice the Oilers came back from two-goal deficits. Vancouver jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Linden and Bure.

Ciger and Arnott lifted the Oilers back into a tie in the second period.

Bure and Gelinas moved Vancouver back into the lead with goals early in the third period, but Arnott and Beers pulled the Oilers even with two goals in the final five minutes of regulation.

Florida 8, Montreal 3--The expansion Panthers scored three goals in a span of 1:49 in the second period at Miami in improving their record against the defending Stanley Cup champions to 3-0-1.

Florida won its franchise-best fourth in a row and extended its unbeaten streak to six games. Its eight goals was also a franchise record. The Panthers (20-17-8) scored six in a one-goal victory over the Kings on Dec. 8.

Florida scored five goals on seven shots during its second-period barrage, another club mark. Scott Mellanby led the offense with two goals and an assist. Andrei Lomakin also scored twice.
