FTC Attacks Hearing Aid Ads: Dahlberg Inc. was accused of falsely claiming that its Miracle-Ear Clarifier filters out unwanted background noise and focuses on voices. Acting on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission, Justice Department lawyers filed suit in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, seeking civil penalties for allegedly violating a 1976 agreement not to make false or misleading advertising claims about the performance of its hearing aids. A Dahlberg spokeswoman said the company “never made the claim” that the Miracle-Ear Clarifier separates general noise from human speech. Dahlberg, a subsidiary of Bausch & Lomb and located in Golden Valley, Minn., is the world’s third-largest hearing aid manufacturer, according to the FTC.
