For those who wish to volunteer their goods or services and for people needing the assistance of volunteers. There is a need for Armenian translators and clerical help at various city departments.

* RentLine

Quake victims can get information on rentals by calling 789-RENT, in the 213, 818 and 909 area codes or 289-RENT, in the 310 and 714 area codes.

Owners and managers of multi-unit rental properties can call the Assisted Housing Management Assn., a nonprofit organization for agents, owners and managers of government-assisted housing, to list their properties in a database of available housing. Call (714) 641-9477.

Disaster Aid Centers

FEMA application centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily until further notice. Those who have suffered losses may obtain local, state and federal assistance by visiting the neatest center. Help may be obtained from any center; Hollywood, Northridge, Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys and the South-Central Los Angeles centers have been especially busy, so try other centers if possible. Programs are offered to cover earthquake losses to homes, personal property and businesses not covered by insurance or other aid programs.

Red Cross Service Centers

These Red Cross service centers opened Tuesday. Caseworkers can assess disaster-caused needs and provide vouchers for food, clothing, temporary housing and rental assistance, help with health and medical needs, urgent household items such as bedding or cookware and some home repairs. Those who cannot be seen the same day will be given an appointment and asked to return in the next day or two. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. until further notice.

Water

Water will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the following locations. Recipients must bring their own clean containers. There is no limit; trucks refill and return to sites throughout the day. Ice trucks will make rounds today at noon at the five locations in bold:

Normal trash collection schedules are in operation. If you have a large amount of quake debris, the City Department of Public Works, Bureau of Engineering has a service to pick up debris at no charge to quake victims through Friday. Items such as water heaters or masonry will be picked up, but no household trash or hazardous waste. Items should be placed at the curb. (213) 847-8811.

Household hazardous waste can dropped off at the City Bureau of Sanitation’s waste collection site at the Coast Federal Savings parking lot, 18000 Chatsworth St., Granada Hills, today through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (800) 98-TOXIC from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for information.
