A 48-year-old Camarillo church teacher pleaded not guilty in Superior Court on Tuesday to 10 counts of child molestation in connection with attacks on a 13-year-old girl.

Robert C. Rose, who was the director of the youth religion education program at St. Mary Magdalen church, is scheduled to go on trial March 7 before Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr.

He is free on $20,000 bail.

Rose is accused of sexually molesting the girl between January and April last year at various sites, including at least once at St. Mary Magdalen.

He was arrested on suspicion of child molestation Oct. 1. Prosecutors have said that the girl told one of her friends about the attacks, and the friend encouraged the girl to tell her mother.

The mother told a priest, who reported the allegations to authorities, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Saundra T. Brewer, who has called the case disturbing because Rose held a position of trust with the church.

James M. Farley, Rose’s attorney, said his client no longer has the church position.
