Spectrum Acknowledges It Is Under SEC Probe: Spectrum Information Technologies confirmed that it is the target of a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation relating to statements company executives made about the value of patent license agreements. The wireless communications company made the admission one day after John Sculley, Spectrum’s chairman, told the Dow Jones News Service there was no such probe. Spectrum claims basic patents on key cellular communications technologies. President Peter Caserta said in May that the company’s licensing agreement with AT&T; would be worth “hundreds of millions of dollars,” but AT&T; has disputed that. Sculley on Tuesday also denied reports that he would be leaving Spectrum. He joined the company in October, after having made his name as chairman of Apple Computer Inc.
