Adam Oates had a goal and two assists and Jon Casey faced only 17 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Boston Bruins defeated the New York Islanders, 3-0, on Friday night at Uniondale, N.Y.

The Bruins extended their unbeaten streak to five games and continued their mastery over the Islanders. They are 6-0-2 in their last eight meetings against the Islanders, 4-0-1 at Nassau Coliseum since Nov. 4, 1991, when they lost, 6-4.

Casey preserved the 13th shutout of his career by making a kick save on Marty McInnis’ screen shot with 3:07 to play.

Cam Neely scored the other Bruin goal, his 34th in 30 games.

Florida 3, San Jose 3--Jesse Belanger’s goal with 3:08 to play in the third period at Miami helped the Panthers extend their unbeaten streak to an expansion-record eight games.

The Panthers, 4-0-4 during the streak, had been tied for the record with the Kings and St. Louis Blues, both of whom who accomplished the feat during the 1967-68 season.

The Panthers haven’t lost since Jan. 7, when they were defeated by the New Jersey Devils, 4-1.

San Jose extended its road unbeaten streak to four games, a franchise record.

St. Louis 3, Edmonton 2--Brendan Shanahan scored two goals to lead the Blues at Edmonton.

In the final minutes, St. Louis led, 2-1. In a desperate bid for a tie, Edmonton Coach Glen Sather called for a measurement of Craig Janney’s stick with 2:25 to play. It proved to have too much curve and the Oilers went on a power play with a two-man advantage after pulling the goaltender. But Shanahan scored a short-handed goal into an empty net at 19:11, giving the Blues a 3-1 lead.

Louie DeBrusk scored the Oilers’ second goal at 19:59.

New Jersey 2, Calgary 2--Stephane Richer scored two goals at Calgary, his 19th and 20th of the season, as the Devils extended their road unbeaten streak to five games.

Wes Walz and Theoren Fleury scored for the Flames.
