The Dallas Mavericks found out what it felt like to be in a winning home locker room Saturday night.

The Mavericks ended their NBA-record streak for home-court futility at 19 games, getting 24 points from Jim Jackson and defeating the Sacramento Kings, 108-101.

“It’s a big relief,” said Jamal Mashburn, who scored 16 points. “I’m not expecting the fans to fill up the place next time, but for a change it’s nice to be in this locker room and not be talking about a moral victory.”

Dallas, which ended a 16-game overall losing streak, also avoided the U.S. record for consecutive home losses in any pro sport with its first victory at Reunion Arena this season.

The 1953 St. Louis Browns lost 20 consecutive American League home games.

The Kings, who have lost seven in a row, trailed by only 101-99 after Spud Webb’s layup with 2:01 to play, but Mitch Richmond, who led the Kings with 34 points, missed a three-point shot that would have put the Kings ahead. Lionel Simmons was called for a foul on the ensuing rebound with 1:12 to play.

The Mavericks’ third victory in 42 games was sealed when Jackson intercepted a pass and Fat Lever made two free throws with 17 seconds to play.

New York 106, Seattle 92--Patrick Ewing had 21 points and 18 rebounds and the Knicks slowed the SuperSonics in the second half at Seattle.

The Knicks put the defensive clamps on the SuperSonics after Seattle led, 58-51, at halftime. The SuperSonics were outscored, 55-34, in the second half.

Seattle’s Shawn Kemp scored one point in the final three quarters against the Knicks, who limited Seattle to 32% shooting in the second half.
