Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Several Council Hopefuls Fail to Qualify for Ballot
City Council hopeful Harold E. Smith failed to qualify to have his name appear on the April ballot.
Smith, a 59-year-old automotive machinist, failed to submit the required signatures of 20 registered voters within the city.
In Lancaster, two of the 15 City Council hopefuls also failed to qualify. Neither Roger Price, 39, or Belinda Warren, 34, met the filing requirements.
Like Smith, Price and Warren did not submit enough valid signatures.
The disqualification of Price and Warren leaves 13 candidates, including three incumbents, on the ballot in Lancaster. Three four-year term council seats are available in the April 12 election.
Without Smith on the ballot in Palmdale, there will be 13 council candidates, including two incumbents, vying for two four-year seats. Four residents, including the incumbent, are seeking the two-year term mayor’s post.
